Semi-trailer carrying 43,000 pounds of solar panels drives through Warwick

WARWICK, RI (WLNE) – A tractor-trailer that was carrying 43,000 pounds of solar panels overturned on Interstate 95 south in Warwick on Monday morning.

The accident happened shortly before 10 a.m. near the ramp of the Airport Connector.

Rhode Island State Police said when the tractor-trailer overturned, it hit the guardrail along the ramp, shattering one of the fuel tanks.

ABC 6 News crews at the scene saw firefighters actively working to get a person out of the truck.

Police said the solar panels will need to be unloaded before the truck can be towed.

The Department of Transportation has implemented a diversion from the airport connector westbound to I-95 north, state police added. This should last until Monday evening.
